Tradition Meets Modernity: Shantanu’s Cannes 2024 Look

The Outfit:

Shantanu Maheshwari’s look at Cannes beautifully blends tradition with modernity. Teaming up with stylist Pyu Mishra, he wore an outfit that incorporated Indian crafts. The upper edge of the outfit featured a traditional sewing technique called “aplik,” which comes from Gujarat. In this technique, patches or patterns are sewn onto the base fabric by hand. The creation was put together by designer Rohit Bal. To celebrate Shantanu’s roots in Rajasthan, the stylist opted for a bandhgala with a fresh and modern approach. The motifs on the bandhgala were inspired by nature’s flora and fauna. Pure chanderi silk was appliqued onto it to create a botanical art piece.

Jodhpuri Pants Reimagined: Classic jodhpuri pants were replaced with flared, layered linen trousers, adding a contemporary twist.
  • Jewelry: Shantanu layered a silver disc lemon quartz chain with a silver zircon necklace, peeking out from under the bandhgala.
  • Footwear: His look was completed with an exclusively handmade Peshawari jutti, embellished with ivory pearls, created by Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla.
  • Debut at Cannes:

Shantanu Maheshwari made his much-awaited debut at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. Known for his role as Loverboy Afshaan in “Gangubai Kathiawadi,” he is at Cannes for the poster launch of his upcoming film, "Love in Vietnam".
